About

Since 2002, the Cheshire Foundation has operated community-based services aimed at supporting people in their own homes in each of the three health board areas covered by the Eastern Region Health Authority. (Previously, these services operated as the 'Outreach' programme from the Cheshire centres of Cara, Barrett, Ardeen and Richmond in Dublin.)

Mission Statement

The mission statement of Cheshire Community Services (CCS) is

'to aim to support adults with a physical/sensory disability who are living in the community to access the same human rights as all other citizens'.

Service users are actively encouraged to be part of any decision-making processes and a holistic approach is used to meet individual needs. CCS operates on the principles of community development in order to encourage people to actively participate, access and integrate into their own community.

Facilities

  • CCS currently operates from three local offices — in Ballyfermot, Dun Laoghaire and Wicklow — providing a base from which its trained Community Co-ordinators and Support Workers can operate.
  • Areas covered include Ballyfermot/Clondalkin/Lucan, Cabra/Finglas, Wicklow/Bray/south Co. Dublin.
  • It is hoped that CCS will be in a position to provide a service to all areas over the coming years.

Services Available

  • Accessible transport, facilitating members of the local community in getting to appointments and social outings;
  • Information and advocacy, supporting people with home-based accessible and impartial advice on all existing legislation and entitlements in the area of disability;
  • One-to-one support, offering people individual assistance with their social and personal needs and introducing them to a network of organisations and services in order to obtain a comprehensive package of community support;
  • Day centre and group activities, offering social activities within the communities of each area served;
  • Respite referrals, linking closely with respite facilities within Cheshire Ireland and with other respite providers to offer back-up to disabled people and their carers for both emergency and non- emergency respite needs;
  • Disability awareness, promoting awareness about the issues that affect disabled people among schools, businesses, statutory and non-statutory organisations.

All Cheshire services, in Ireland and worldwide, aspire to operate in keeping with the Cheshire ethos and in line with today’s standards for rights-based disability services. In particular, Cheshire services aim to listen carefully to people with disabilities and to try to meet the expectations of people using our services.
