About
Rathfredagh Cheshire Home, bequeathed to the Cheshire Foundation by the Waller family, opened in 1971 and is located about 4 miles outside the town of Newcastle West, about 34 miles from Limerick city. The large main house is located in its own grounds among rolling pastures and woods, and is fully modernised to accommodate 26 service users. Our new courtyard supported living apartments accommodate 5 service users, separate from the main house.
Facilities
- 16 private rooms in the main house
- 15 self-contained apartments, each consisting of a bedroom, bathroom, sitting room and fully fitted kitchen area, with patio doors giving access to a landscaped courtyard area and the gardens.
- Courtyard Service of 5 Supported Living apartments.
- Physiotherapy room, activities room, kitchen/dining room, chapel and 2 lounges - for the benefit of all service users.
Services Available
- 24-hour care and support from trained staff, covering the main house and apartments.
- Respite care is available for 2 people in the main house, on a weekly basis (closed every second weekend).
- Rathfredagh provides day services for people in the local community.
- Acquired brain injury service.
Community Links
- In partnership with the Mid-Western Health Board, Rathfredagh has developed a physiotherapy service for people in the local community, using a community physiotherapist.
- This provides invaluable help and support for those needing such treatments. Community groups can use Rathfredagh's Day Centre and activities room for recreation and planned events.
All Cheshire services, in Ireland and worldwide, aspire to operate in keeping with the Cheshire ethos and in line with today’s standards for rights-based disability services. In particular, Cheshire services aim to listen carefully to people with disabilities and to try to meet the expectations of people using our services.
